Uber ($UBER) announced its new mobile banking platform called Uber Money this week, which it says will provide 4-million drivers and couriers mobile bank accounts. It will include debit and credit cards, digital wallets, and other banking features that it says will remove "financial middlemen and generate new revenue streams" for drivers and even customers.

The company has been busy hiring people for the service, with some job listings going back to 2016 for software engineers. it wasn't until October 10, 2019, that Uber listed an opening for a "Program Leader, Money Platform".

So, Uber has listed 38 positions that appear to directly point to the Money platform in their titles (also correcting for jobs that were in finance for other purposes). Those include:

Uber Money's announcement comes just ahead of earnings as the company is under increased pressure to begin turning a profit. Bringing a digital wallet and payment system into its ecosystem would allow Uber to get a piece of all transactions made on its platform, both on the rider and driver sides of things. Job listings indicate that the platform will also apply to the company's Uber Eats delivery service.

On the tail of the Uber Money launch will also be the re-introduction of an Uber credit card with Barclays, similar to how Apple launched its credit card with Goldman Sachs.

About the Data:

Thinknum tracks companies using the information they post online - jobs, social and web traffic, product sales and app ratings - and creates data sets that measure factors like hiring, revenue and foot traffic. Data sets may not be fully comprehensive (they only account for what is available on the web), but they can be used to gauge performance factors like staffing and sales.
