FreshDirect ($PRIVATE:FRESHDIRECT) is a regional app, which hasn't made its way anywhere except the northeast. Despite that, there are still plenty of people who used FreshDirect for grocery deliveries. And more people now than ever, as buying food without getting sick as become vital. Not quite a blood sport or an apocalyptic endeavor, but definitely something that is changing our lives in drastic, critical ways.
The founder of FreshDirect says online grocery shopping has doubled in popularity, either out of convenience or necessity is up for debate. As a result, social media engagement has gone up for the startup, as well as average app review scores on the Apple App Store (after a wipe of older reviews).
There were a few hundred new likes for FreshDirect over the last month, which brought the total up to 90,000. The 'Talking About' count went down to only a few hundred, but it's hard to reconcile people using the app more while talking about it less.
The last month also saw 1,000 new Twitter users follow FreshDirect. The FreshDirect account has had a really flat growth rate for years, so this is quite a breakthrough for their social media.
On March 25th, the Apple App Store reset the reviews for FreshDirect, from over 2,000 ratings and a 3/5 average to a 3.9/5 with only 750+ reviews. It was a great time to capitalize, with lots of new users trying out online delivery for their groceries.
If only FreshDirect could do that with the Google Play Store, which has been taking a beating with its user reviews. The average rating fell to 2.3/5 on 840+ reviews. Your experience may just differ on what phone you use, or you might be more likely to leave a nasty comment if you're an Android user.
About the Data:
Thinknum tracks companies using the information they post online - jobs, social and web traffic, product sales and app ratings - and creates data sets that measure factors like hiring, revenue and foot traffic. Data sets may not be fully comprehensive (they only account for what is available on the web), but they can be used to gauge performance factors like staffing and sales.
