Minecraft, a build-your-own-world sandbox game developed by once-indie studio Mojang ($PRIVATE:MOJANG), is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. Owned by Microsoft ($MSFT), which bought the IP and the studio for $2.5 billion in September 2014, it is second only to Tetris in all-time video game sales and claims tens of millions of monthly active users.
As it celebrates its 10th anniversary today, Minecraft owns the #1 App and Game spot on Amazon ($AMZN) according to the Amazon Games Store.
Since September 19, 2017, Minecraft has been the #1 app on Amazon every single day except for December 14, 2018. That was the day after SEGA, once the rival to the mighty Nintendo back in the 20th century, released a compilation of classic games for the Amazon Fire Stick TV for its 30th anniversary.

Minecraft isn't just a killer app; according to our database, there were 60 other Minecraft related products that spent a day or more in one of Amazon's top-100 category charts. With new video games being released every day, it's somewhat surprising that a 10-year-old game continues to have not one, but two top-100 products on the market. And that includes all the various gift cards for live service platforms and controllers.
The game is played on multiple platforms from home computers, to streaming devices, to game consoles, to smartphones. Its easy-to-play, difficult-to-master style has kept players hooked for the past decade. WIthin Microsoft's vast portfolio of games, ranging from the space first-person-shooter Halo to business simulation game Zoo Tycoon — it is far and away its most successful franchise.
In other words, it would be news if Minecraft ever loosened its iron (er, diamond) grip on the #1 spot on Amazon's store, but for now, we celebrate its dominance on its 10th anniversary.
