LinkedIn, Microsoft's ($MSFT) massive networking and employment platform, continues to grow, as professionals use the service not just to find jobs, but to market their businesses and share their thoughts. All at once, it is a social network, publishing platform, and HR site.
In other words, it's relevant to just about anyone who has — or wants — a job, and its growth in the past year shows as much. It's quickly replacing the business card, the resume, and the business blog.
So how big is it? In a phrase: it's massive, it's global, and it's growing.
Growth
In the past 9 months, LinkedIn's self-reported reach was 428 million worldwide. As of today, it reaches 497 million professionals. That's a growth of 16% in less than a year.
Those numbers jive with statistics published by Business Insider Intelligence stating that LinkedIn recently crossed the half-billion user threshold.
Global Reach
Of those that LinkedIn reaches on a daily basis, the largest country represented is — not surprisingly — the United States with a reach of more than 156 million.
India is second with more than 50 million reached, followed by China with almost 47 million.
LinkedIn Regional Change
When it comes to the most growth — and contraction — per country, China is on the rise. It added 5.98 million LinkedIn users reached in the past 9 months compared to India's 5.96.
New countries on the map when it comes to LinkedIn reach in the past year include Egypt with 2.6 million users reached, Saudi Arabia with 2.5 million reached, Iran with 2.4 million reached, Switzerland with 2.3 million reached, and Denmark with 2.1 million reached. That's a lot of new users from upbeat economies with highly skilled workers.
Russia was the only country to see a drop in reach in the past 8 months. That's not surprising, as the country began blocking LinkedIn in 2016.
