On March 31, we found that Apple was accelerating hiring for its Siri team with 161 openings as it scrambles to catch up with voice-controlled AI assistants from Amazon and Google. As of today, Apple Siri openings have grown even further, now to 170 jobs.

Two days after our story, Apple announced it was bringing on John Giannandrea, Google's AI chief who oversaw the creation of Google Assistant, Google's Siri-like voice asssistant. It's unclear if these new positions are his creation or pre-planned.

As hiring continues - now under Giannandrea's stewardship - we'll continue to monitor the Siri group as it grows.

Among the 9 new positions are Product Managers and Software Engineers.
