About the Interview Series
Through his lived experience growing up as low-income and first-gen, Tai Tran co-founded Close the Gap to empower every low-income student to reach their fullest potential through mentorship, project-based learning, and scholarships. Close the Gap is 100% volunteer-run with teams from Apple, Airbnb, Facebook, and Deloitte. To date, Close the Gap has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships and mentored over a thousand low-income students. In 2020, Thrive recognized Close the Gap for "cracking the code in helping first-generation, low-income students self-actualize during COVID-19."
At The Business of Business, this mission is close to our hearts. Greg Ugwi, our co-founder, grew up in deprived socio-economic circumstances in Nigeria before winning a scholarship to Princeton and starting his career on Wall Street. These achievements would not have been possible without the help of selfless mentors and generous scholarships along the way.
The Business of Business is proud to support Close the Gap, a 501(c)3 non-profit based in San Francisco, California, in this special fundraising event. Our lineup of speakers, including several Close the Gap Fellows and scholarship recipients, will explain how mentorship has impacted their lives. Please click to donate through PayPal Charity - Margaret Holen and Gregory Ugwi will both personally match donations up to $1,000.
Update: Unfortunately Margaret Holen will be unable to attend today's fundraiser, but she will still match donations up to $1,000. We look forward to hosting her in a future event.
