Join us for an intimate conversation between Marty Chavez, entrepreneur and former CIO, CFO, and global co-head of Goldman’s Securities Division, and Greg Ugwi, co-founder and CEO of Thinknum. Marty and Greg will discuss their professional journeys — growing up in deprived socio-economic circumstances, then breaking out to elite universities, Wall Street firms, and beyond.

This is the first episode in a series connecting successful leaders to those in the next generation who are deeply interested in technology, business, and investing. The ultimate goal of this series is to inspire young and ambitious talent from varied economic backgrounds, and to develop empathy in society as a whole.

    Former Executive @Goldman Sachs

    Marty is Wall Street royalty. He served in a variety of senior roles at Goldman Sachs, including Chief Information Officer, CFO, and global co-head of Goldman’s Securities Division. Marty was a partner and member of the Goldman Sachs Management Committee.

    Marty has achieved singular acclaim in the financial-services industry for his work on SecDB, an early platform that transformed the trading business into a software business. By training, he is a computer scientist who successfully advocated for the elevation of engineers.

    Marty is a disrupter at heart. He was among the most senior Latinos on Wall Street, as well as the most senior openly gay executive at Goldman Sachs.

    Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Marty was the CEO and co-founder of Kiodex, acquired by Sungard in 2004. He holds an undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences and a master’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard, and a Ph.D.in Medical Information Sciences from Stanford.

    Gregory Ugwi is the cofounder & CEO of Thinknum, KGBase and The Business of Business. Thinknum Inc has raised $12.6 million to date. Prior to founding Thinknum, Greg graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and worked at Goldman Sachs as a mortgage strat.

    Greg was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. Greg enjoys playing soccer and is an investor in New Amsterdam FC.
